Natural solution to the humidity problem
On the basis of specific technical knowledge, targeted studies and investigations conducted on the mortars of the past, it was possible to give life to a project aimed at identifying and creating a dehumidification system that faithfully reproduced the characteristics of ancient artefacts, ensuring performance and results alike. The study was conducted aiming to reproduce and re-propose the same mixtures and compounds of the past, using raw materials that history suggests. Durability and integrity over time are the results pursued.
Specific for the restoration of walls located in particularly humid environments, or in any case subject to capillary rising phenomena ; based on the use of Pantheon Pozzolanic Lime with the addition of selected aggregates in a continuous curve.
Solution to humidity problem. Characteristics:
- Microporous structure which guarantees high breathability of the mortar layers and very low capillary absorption, i.e. it slows down the passage of moles of water whilst allowing steam to pass through, with consequent control of salt crystallisation . The microporous structure also allows for strong mechanical characteristics to be obtained;
- Absence of soluble and attackable free lime , which can lead to the disintegration of the material. Our dehumidifying mortars are free from free lime, since in the setting and hardening phase of the mixture, all the lime is rapidly and completely consumed by binding with the silico-aluminates of natural pozzolans;
- Siliceous aggregates which make the mortar more resistant to chemical aggression and contribute, with the hardness and tenacity of the grains, to providing resistance to the whole.
Application procedure
- Removal of the old plaster, more or less deteriorated or what is left of it up to the edge of the masonry, for a height of approximately 30 cm beyond the visible humidity line.
- Cleaning the bedding joints and in case of disintegrated mortar, scraping them to a depth of approximately 1 cm.
- Washing surfaces with clean water.
- Possible preliminary extraction of excess water-soluble salts, using Antisalt® Buffer .
Dehumidifying cycle
- Rendering the masonry with Fortis Rinzaffo Antisale® in a minimum thickness of 1 cm.
- Application of Fortis Intonaco Deumidificante® , in a minimum thickness of 2 cm.
- The surface finishing layer must be chosen from products with proven resistance to chemical aggression, as well as characterized by low values of resistance to vapor diffusion. You can opt for one of the following types of Calchèra San Giorgio finish:
- plaster with the natural color of the material – Tonachino® ;
- painting – Lime painting / Silifarbe
- plaster with a washed-out effect – Malta per Intonaco Lavato ® .
