Consolidation times, when necessary

consolidation times

We sometimes mean different types of roofing in the architectural structures sector. This element can be described as a series of arches which, depending on their arrangement, constitute two main types of vaults: simple ones and compound ones. In general, however, we are talking about pushing structures that exert lateral thrusts. The opposition to these forces is exerted by the perimeter walls or metal elements. Consolidation interventions are therefore sometimes necessary when functionality is compromised.

Consolidation times, when required

The consolidation of the vaults is necessary when there is evidence of instability. The causes can be multiple, however, after a careful analysis of the situation, it is possible to determine a choice towards the most appropriate intervention in the case.

It is therefore necessary to research the cause of the failure and find the most suitable solution. It should be noted that one cannot look for ready-made solutions as these are interventions that can only be expertly carried out by sector specialists.

A qualified technician will therefore have to carry out the relevant findings, identify the causes of the failure and, consequently, propose the most effective type of intervention.

The causes of vault failures

Among the most frequent causes of instability, there are undoubtedly seismic events, structural failures due, for example, to landslides, floods, but also to human errors, such as those due to incorrect calculations or the use of materials not of quality, besides, of course, the passage of time.

More frequent interventions

Among the most frequent vault consolidation interventions are those aimed at reducing the load acting on them, the creation of a reinforced concrete slab, or the eventual creation of an underlying vault aimed at reducing the stresses, but also the insertion of metal works designed to counteract lateral thrust.

Preventive strengthening interventions can also be carried out and if there is a need for a more radical intervention, it can be done at a later time.
