Conference “Architecture between Nature and Sustainability”
The conference, set in the splendid artistic and natural setting of Arte Sella, was born from the belief shared by the Italian Bioarchitecture Foundation and the management of Arte Sella, that the association between architecture and nature has distant roots and, despite the modernist aesthetics of the last century on the one hand and profit-oriented economic logics on the other have relegated nature to a position of passive submission, contemporary environmental emergencies rebalance the relationship between nature and architecture, strengthening their interdependence. Architecture, today, is called upon to deal with environmental aspects through an “adaptive” approach, capable of interacting with the natural context in which it is inserted without opposing it but, rather, exploiting its conditions. In other words, natural elements such as light, vegetation, water, heat and wind play a central role in the project of sustainable architecture, becoming building materials themselves, in a complex intertwining of nature and artifice. to satisfy man’s needs for environmental comfort, psychological and perceptive well-being linked to built space.
