Features and procedure

Today we talk about how to make lime putty, a binder
natural and ecological used for masonry or plaster mortars.

But first, let me explain what specifically the
lime putty.

Lime putty:
characteristics

As just mentioned, slaked lime is a
particular air-setting binder used as a binder for mortars
from plaster or masonry, and applicable on internal walls and in the construction sector
green building.

It is a material with high porosity characteristics,
hygroscopy and breathability, and thanks to its application, the walls manage to
breathe, thus avoiding the formation of mold or microorganisms and maintaining
much healthier environments.

Furthermore, lime is a sanitizing, basic,
antiseptic and non-toxic.

The procedure for
obtain the lime putty

This material can easily be found in stores
specialists or hardware stores, or you can do it yourself if you have a
minimum familiarity and equipment. So let’s see how to do it
lime putty.

First you need gods  limestone stones  That
have a crystalline structure and a percentage of impurities that is not
higher than 5%. Such stones must cook in a furnace for three days and three
nights until they are white, if you don’t have a furnace you will have to
buy the ready product.

Once the stones have turned white they will have to
be placed inside a wooden tub or basin sufficiently
wide and the water will pour. At this point  a chemical reaction occurs
which reaches 800 degrees  and consequently the stones crumble.
By adding more water you obtain powdered putty, while if you
Add plenty of water to obtain slaked lime.

This has a yogurt-like consistency and texture
porous.

Clearly, for those who are not familiar with all of them
these procedures, the best solution is to purchase the powder or paste already
ready for use.
