Marmorino walls

Marmorino walls are a type of wall decoration that has ancient roots. Among the most illustrious are certainly those from the Renaissance era, by Palladio and Sansovino, but above all those from the Venetian eighteenth century. Among lime plasters, marmorino is the most used. Widespread especially during the golden period of the Serenissima, it did not only have an aesthetic function: in fact it protected the walls from the humidity that rose from the canals. Marmorino also found some success in the Liberty era.

Marmorino walls, the technique

The name marmorino is quite explanatory of the type of wall that was being created. The master plasterer, an expert in the characteristics of lime, managed to cover the walls with a mixture that made them similar to marble, hence the name.

The mixture is obtained by mixing, in the right proportions, lime, water and a very fine marble powder. This compound is then spread on the walls in several layers. The paste applied to the walls is then smoothed with special spatulas which allow the marble to penetrate the material. Once all the mixture has been applied, it is pressed and then polished.

The effect obtained is of great aesthetic impact.

The marmorino nowadays

Marmorino walls, even today, are a sign of great elegance and prestige . Today this type of technique is decidedly more versatile than in the past and is well suited to any type of interior, including modern furnishings and therefore not just classic ones.

The marmorino walls give brightness to the rooms , expand the spaces in a play of perspectives and give an ancient elegance that is both sober and refined. Marmorino can be colored with natural pigments, so it is an absolutely biocompatible product. Naturally, since it is not an easy technique to apply, it is always best to contact plaster professionals.
