Bioarchitecture

The history of the material is inseparable from that of architecture, the choice of construction materials is, in fact, the expression of traditions, culture and the environment in which the architectural artefact is inserted. Pre-modern construction was characterized by the use of construction typologies functional to the physical and climatic characteristics of the context and by the comparison with the scarce availability of material resources. An unmistakable and authentic architectural language was derived from this, the settlements and buildings were in harmony with nature and the environment thanks to the choice of materials and technologies used. In the 20th century, short-term materialistic thinking inevitably influenced the quality of construction, contributing to the deterioration of the environment, the depletion of natural resources and an unsustainable waste of energy. Today, a reorientation of architecture in its global aspects and implications appears inevitable which must tend towards a more respectful vision of the human being and nature, in which the concept of sustainability cannot be understood only in the “numerical” terms of energy efficiency, but as a central purpose of society.
