Natural hydraulic lime

Old country houses, houses on the ground floor, are all situations in which it is easy to find one of the most annoying problems: humidity. In milder cases it is possible to intervene with a normal cleaning of the deteriorated part , but in certain other cases the only solution is a much more radical intervention, for example using natural hydraulic lime.

Natural hydraulic lime to restore walls damaged by mould

Especially in old country houses, the walls do not breathe well, it is easy for humidity and condensation to form, and consequently mould. This is a serious problem because it can also make environments unhealthy.

Therefore it is important to resolve the phenomenon of rising damp , perhaps first by dehumidifying the room and then by working on the wall. Using natural hydraulic lime means giving the walls not only a very pleasant aesthetic effect, but also better comfort. This type of intervention, in fact, does not damage the structure of the walls and is highly resistant to humidity.

Why you don’t have to use cement plaster

In the particular conditions we have just described, it is preferable not to use a cement plaster, although it is more convenient from an economic point of view. The reason is very simple: this material increases the rise of humidity after a renovation , despite the fact that concrete is a more durable material.

In particular, mold is prolific in plaster-finished concrete walls. Therefore, cement is not good at all for renovating damp walls.

On the contrary, natural lime allows the wall to breathe so mold does not find fertile ground because the wall’s transpiration capacity varies depending on the season.

The proof of what has been said is that once the houses were built with stone , hydraulic lime and bricks, but unfortunately, in modern times, they have been restored with cement materials and this is what has caused their deterioration over time, precisely for the reasons which we have just described.
