Characteristics of natural pigments
Pigments are often used in the construction industry
natural to give valuable and quality characteristics to the materials used,
transforming them to the color of the binder inside them.
Furthermore, pigments are usually used for
formulation of:
- Finishes;
- Mortars for building restoration
period and monumental; - Flooring;
- Paintings;
and much more…
Finally, natural pigments can be found via
extraction from deposits by excavation in the open air or in tunnels, e
after extraction they are selected based on quality, shade and purity,
to then be crushed, washed and reduced to powder.
Natural lands
pigmenting
Earths belong to the family of natural pigments
natural colours, composed mainly of clay, iron oxide or others
elements capable of determining the chromatic tone of the latter.
They are also characterized by transparency and lightness
of colours, fundamental for obtaining excellent frescoes, paintings and restorations
and renovations of buildings in historic centres.
Among the various types of land we find:
- Yellow lands : i.e. iron hydroxides associated with clays, where
the iron ore content can vary between 20% and 70%; - Red earths : composed of red oxide associated with clays and
amorphous silicates; - Shadow lands : their color depends above all on oxides of
manganese and iron scattered on a clay base; - Green lands : their color is given by hydrated iron silicates,
magnesium and alkali; - Black earths : composed of very clayey carbonaceous shales, in one
almost pasty state and often close to basaltic masses.
