plaster restoration

Plaster is the external surface of a building, both as regards the facades, therefore the exteriors, and as regards the interiors. To get an idea of the function of plaster you could think of the skin which has a protective function for our body. In the same way, plaster protects the building and at the same time gives it a certain appearance . However, over time, this surface can be damaged, so let’s see what the types of plaster restoration can be.

Plaster restoration, the causes must first be analysed

The causes that lead to the deterioration of a plaster can be different, various factors contribute. The deterioration can therefore be due to natural causes , therefore to seismic events, floods, but also to less invasive causes, such as humidity, or rain, which causes mechanical action by abrading the external walls.

Again with regards to the exteriors, winds and atmospheric dust are also among the causes of deterioration. However, the so-called anthropic damage , such as inscriptions, graffiti and engravings, should not be forgotten. Among the anthropic damages we can also include those of the internal walls due to the action of children who perhaps mess with the walls or animals who scratch them.

Analysis of the situation

The restoration of the surface to be treated must be carried out after an in-depth assessment and must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, in order to establish the most suitable intervention for the situation.

Plaster restoration must also be evaluated based on whether it is a painted or frescoed surface; in the second case it is a much more complex problem.

How to intervene

The first thing to keep in mind is that each restoration is a case in itself , therefore it cannot be generalized. Each wall is conditioned by the material its plaster is made of and the restoration intervention will have to be calibrated precisely by virtue of this singularity. The degree of deterioration and its cause must therefore also be taken into account, and finally the location of the building must be taken into account.
