The church, due to its isolated position, has been used several times over the centuries as a lazaret: a place of isolation for the sick during plague and cholera epidemics. The last time it occurred in the summer of 1873, during the outbreak of a cholera epidemic.
Madonna with child from 1474. The “chiselings” were used to make the disinfectant lime adhere to the wall of the lazaretto.
