Formegan Church

Home | Formegan Church

The Church of Formegan, first dedicated to Santa Maria Nascente and today to San Rocco. There are few documents of this Church, one of these is a letter from Pope Lucius III from which we understand that the Church was already present in 1184. Then it was renovated between 1200 and 1300 and continued to undergo changes over time, including some very important ones between 1400 and 1500. Once upon a time there was a cemetery around the church, bordered by walnut trees, and later by mulberry trees. In 1780 the bell tower was also restored. The last works before the last restoration project date back to a few years ago and involve the restoration of the internal structure, with the discovery of precious medieval frescoes including a beautiful Last Supper.
