The Giorgio Franchetti Gallery
located in the Cà d’Oro palace in Venice, one of the most famous architectures on the
Grand Canal. During the work undertaken by Giorgio Franchetti,
made the marble floor (350sqm) of the porch on the ground floor, using
the techniques ofopus sectile
and
opus tessellatum
. The
geometric patterns that make up the decoration are inspired by the paving
of the churches of the Venetian lagoon, to the decorations cosmatesche, and to themes taken from the repertoire
decorative Byzantine. Giorgio Franchetti personally designed the geometries
of the pavement and also engaged in its construction. For this work
chose not to use modern quarrying marbles and stones, but the types
most famous and precious since Roman antiquity, including the
Antique red porphyry
,

coil
,
the
cipollino verde
,
the
antique yellow
,
the
pavonazzetto
,
the
antique green
,
the
luculleo
marble and
many others.
