Putty paste for shaving

For all DIY lovers here is a mini guide that will help you carry out an almost professional job. If you have to restore the walls of your home , you will find yourself having to engage in that finishing process called shaving. You don’t need to be a professional, but having a minimum amount of manual skills certainly helps, just as it helps to know the tools and products to use, such as smoothing paste, for example.

Let’s start by saying that shaving is a finishing process that is obtained through the use of lime putty, therefore a lime-based paste in substance that has been left to mature for a certain time in a pit.

Another solution for smoothing is to use smoothing plasters which therefore have the ability to smooth the wall; these smoothing plasters can be gypsum-based or cement-based. Normally this type of plaster is used when it is necessary to restore a part that has decidedly old plaster or where only some parts need to be repaired or if the wall needs to be covered with wallpaper.

How to smooth a wall

If the wall is in good condition , it is sufficient to simply pass a coat of 80-100 grit sandpaper . If necessary, proceed with stucco if there are depressions left on the wall, therefore holes, using small quantities of stucco. After about 8 hours you can sand again, taking care to brush the dust off the wall .

We then proceed with a primer, a fixative that can be applied either with a roller or a brush and which has the function of further compacting the wall. The primer dries in about 2-3 hours.

However, if the wall is not in good condition, the stucco will not be sufficient and you will have to proceed with smoothing. You must therefore obtain some smoothing paste, a fairly simple product to use.

However, it is necessary to distribute the product evenly , which is why the right tools must be used. There are various types in metal, you can ask the shopkeeper for advice on which one is right for you. It is necessary to spread the smoothing putty very precisely, trying to maintain the same pressure throughout the application.

With a little practice you can achieve excellent results.
