In the municipality of Morciano di Leuca (Lecce), in the locality of the same name, Torre Vado stands, less than 10 meters from the sea and at an altitude of 5 metres. Dating back to 1569, it is one of the most famous towers located along the Salento coast.
The important restoration which took place over the last two years has allowed the recovery of the historic structure, now used as a private residence.
The restoration of the internal and external surfaces was characterized by careful respect for the architectural form and by the use of materials that allowed the tower to still defy time without ever betraying the essence of the original stone, of which wind and salt water are the primary traits of its charm, but also the first agents from which to defend itself.
To this end, following the removal of improper cementitious plasters with thicknesses of up to 8-9 cm which had distorted its nature, all pozzolanic lime materials were used: both for the in-depth consolidation of the walls (Boiacca Iniezione 100) both for the plastering and finishing of surfaces where dehumidifying mortars expressly formulated with color and grain size similar to those of the original plasters found have been applied. We proudly underline the selection by the Superintendency of the Torre Vado project for “3EXP: Italian methodologies of research, protection and enhancement of architectural heritage. Exhibition of Italian culture on architectural heritage”, whose exhibition is currently underway in the South American cities of Bogota and Buenos Aires.
