Composition and use of Silex

We know very well that providing protection to a building or home is not at all simple and for this reason it is of fundamental importance to rely on certified and highly professional companies. The surfaces most subject to erosion are, without a shadow of a doubt, the external ones. In fact, they are eroded and disfigured due to various phenomena such as atmospheric agents, temperature changes between heat and cold, strong humidity and others.
Our company, Calchera San Giorgio, to overcome these problems has created a product called Silex whose main function is to protect the walls on the surface and therefore protect them from the inevitable erosion caused by time.

Method of use and composition

Silex is a product studied and created in our laboratories thanks to the commitment of our certified researchers who undergo continuous refresher courses. It is a material composed mainly of insoluble pozzolanic lime mortar and silica sand. In particular, it is used for the top protection of stone, brick, tuff or mixed walls and for recovery, conservative and monumental restoration interventions.
Specifically, its composition is characterized by the presence of a particular type of binder called Calce Pozzolanica Pantheon. This component is very important as it gives the mixture excellent adhesion to the support as well as notable elasticity, breathability, resistance to alkaline aggression and the formation of mold on the walls.

Preparation and application

To prepare Silex, the support must be very clean and all non-adherent and inconsistent parts must be removed beforehand so as not to jeopardize the adhesion of the mortar to the surface in question.
To prepare the mixture, it is subsequently necessary to mix each 25 kg bag with approximately 6-7 liters of water until a homogeneous, soft and lump-free mixture is obtained. Before applying the product you must wait about 10-15 minutes to let it rest and only after wetting the base is it possible to apply the mortar manually with a trowel or small trowel in a maximum thickness of 10 mm per layer.
