Structural reinforcement of walls

Structural wall reinforcement, in those buildings that require it, is the best way to guarantee the safety of the building itself . Nowadays we talk more and more often about seismic events that cause so much damage to homes and to urban heritage in general which, however, appears to be too obsolete. Most of the existing structures were built according to the regulations of the time, therefore they do not meet the current ones which have set greater standards of safety and resistance. 

Structural reinforcement of walls, not just earthquakes

The concept of strengthening existing structures is not only to be linked to problems resulting from seismic events . Structures, in fact, can be subject to different problems, for example the degradation of materials that are part of the structure itself, such as masonry or corrosion of reinforcing bars.

Other causes are unpredictable events that damage structures such as fires, hydrogeological disruptions, land subsidence, impacts.

Innovative materials

Today it is possible, thanks to constant research, to make use of innovative materials that are able to have an optimal performance in the structural reinforcement of walls. New techniques have also made a notable contribution to the development of new specific reinforcement systems depending on the problem that arises.

One of the most used techniques is that of reinforced plaster with electro-welded mesh and grout . This technique consists of making two concrete slabs which are reinforced with metal reinforcement. These are arranged on the surfaces of the walls and are connected to each other with bars that pass through the masonry.

The reinforcement can have different purposes , from the simple reinforcement of the mortar coating, which serves to avoid the formation of cracks, up to the structural reinforcement of walls with an anti-seismic perspective. Clearly, different materials are used depending on the need. The latest technologies have allowed us to use increasingly cutting-edge materials capable of lowering costs and increasing the quality of the renovation.
